Barriers to Education:
The Client Self-Sufficiency SUCCESS Project provides legal counseling and representation to Broward County residents who are eligible for various county-funded programs, such as Workforce One, Vocational Rehabilitation, and other county programs. We take a holistic approach in helping you overcome the legal barriers that may have kept you from achieving your goal of obtaining higher education and becoming authentically self-sufficient.
Legal Aid will provide several types of services, beginning with evaluating any legal barriers, and will provide the necessary legal representation to help you obtain your goals. Other Special Projects: We take on cases that have a community-wide impact. Past examples include litigation involving issues such as access to health care for the indigent, violations of due process rights, such as the right to proper notice and a hearing for City code violations, and in hiring at the School Board of Broward County. We also have taken on the issue of abuses in background checks affecting the ability of our clients to obtain employment after completing their education or training program, and/or in obtaining professional licenses.
Who is Eligible?
Individuals whose income is not more than 187% of the federal poverty guidelines.
What We Do:
Legal Aid Service of Broward County’s Special Projects Unit represents clients in administrative hearings as well as county, circuit, and federal court.
What You Need:
- Drivers License or other picture identification
- Proof of Income (pay stubs or social security award letter) and/or
- Tax Returns for all adult members of applicant’s household
- All legal or other document pertaining to the legal problem
- If applicant is not a U.S. citizen:
- Proof of alien status (permanent resident card)

Clients are seen by appointment only. Call (954) 736-2422. Initial interviews are at the Legal Aid Center for Law and Social Justice located at 491 North State Road 7, Plantation, Florida 33317.
