







BROWARD HUMAN RIGHTS INITIATIVE
Broward Human Rights Initiative (BHRI) is a program that provides legal protection for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) community in Broward County . BHRI was also created to protect the civil rights of GLBT persons in Broward County through legal representation, community education, and community mobilization. BHRI ensures that eligible GLBT persons have available to them free and appropriate legal representation designed to meet their unique needs. Legal Aid attorneys provide services that include:
Social Justice
BHRI’s mission includes a commitment to promoting understanding and acceptance of GLBT people by educating the public and legal community about discrimination and promoting fair treatment through progressive public policy. Discrimination of persons in specific protected categories is made unlawful by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This act was amended and augmented by the Broward County Human Rights Act, which extends the prohibition of discrimination of protected classes to include sexual orientation. We seek to advance the legal and human rights of GLBT persons throughout the community through:
